About Shrikhand Font

Shrikhand Font is an ultra-bold serif type intended for display use. The font was designed by Jonny Pinhorn and inspired by the famous Cooper Black.

Shrikhand is the name of a particularly favorite sweet and creamy Gujarati dessert by designer Johnny Pinhorn. The flowing exterior lines of the font create strong, smooth shapes, making Shrikhand a very resilient font.

In the three or four years leading up to the initial development of this font in June 2015, Johnny lived in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, working for Indian Type Foundry. During this time India had a profound influence on his design philosophy and worldview.

Shrikhand is the culmination of three years of absorbing the colorful and vibrant hand-drawn lettering that can be seen on the streets of Gujarat. Shrikhand is a big, and bold serif display genre developed from discussions with colleagues about how good a Gujarati script looks when it’s free to be as curved and expressive as possible.

Shrikhand Font fully supports both Gujarati and Latin writing systems and is freely available under the SIL Open Font License. As with all Johnny’s type design projects, Shrikhand is fully Unicode compatible and includes OpenType features, including some stylized contextual alternatives that add flair and spontaneity.
