Introducing Yatra One Font

Yatra One Font presents a blend of Devanagari and Latin script, drawing inspiration from the distinctive hand-painted signs seen across Mumbai’s local railway system. This typeface, characterized by its heavy weight and high contrast, faithfully captures the unique essence of brush-painted signage, featuring angular cuts and open knots that echo the original style.

The font’s Latin component is particularly noteworthy for its adoption of the Devanagari brush angle, further enhancing its authenticity and visual coherence.

Yatra One was meticulously crafted by Catherine Leigh Schmidt, a proficient type designer based in the United States. Schmidt not only designed the font but also led the Yatra One project, which is hosted on GitHub. Born in Mumbai, Yatra One Font pays homage to its cultural roots by offering fundamental Marathi alternates, adding depth and versatility to its application.
